Lee County will be widening Burnt Store Road from two lanes to four lanes from Diplomat Pkwy to Van Buren Pkwy. This first phase of the project will start on October 5th, and is expected to be completed in early 2017. The second phase will be from Tropicana to Diplomat, starting in 2017, and the third phase will be from Pine Island Rd to Tropicana, scheduled to start in 2019.
The total cost of the project is expected to be $15.3 Million, and the funds will come from tolls collected at Cape Coral and Midpoint bridges, road impact fees and state grants.
This area will be on the messy side during construction, and traffic will be slow going. However, the NW quadrant of the Cape is rapidly expanding so the widening of Burnt Store Rd is very much needed to accommodate the future growth.
