In April, the Ft Myers/Naples unemployment rate dropped to 4.1%, down from 4.7% a year ago. Much of the increased employment has come from the tourism/hospitality industry, along with new home construction. With new construction demand extremely high, it is expected that area unemployment will continue to drop. As the local unemployment rate falls, wages are rising.

Florida's unemployment rate also fell - to 4.8%. The local and state unemployment rates are the lowest in 8 years. Bottom line: If someone wants a job there are plenty of openings available.
