Atlanta Braves Eye Spring Training Camp in Collier County
 
Collier County is in the game as the Atlanta Braves hunt for a new spring training facility. Originally, Collier County was out of the running because they couldn't meet the spring 2018 deadline. On June 1, the Braves renewed their interest in relocating their spring training operations in Collier County, saying it's now willing to wait a year longer to play in a new stadium. The Braves are looking to relocate from Walt Disney World in Orlando, and have explored other sites in Sarasota and Palm Beach counties. Tom: this would give us another MLB Spring Training team in the area, along with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.

Frontier Airlines Will Service Punta Gorda Airport
 
Frontier Airlines is to inaugurate service to Punta Gorda Airport in the fall, joining Allegiant Air at the airport 20 miles north of Cape Coral and Ft Myers. October 30 is the launch date for the Denver-based airline's service between Punta Gorda and Chicago-O'Hare, Philadelphia and Trenton, N.J.
 
Frontier has expanded significantly at SWFL International in the past few years , and will remain a significant presence there. Increasingly, however, Punta Gorda Airport is winning over leisure travelers and part-time SW Florida residents who want budget airfares, but don't necessarily need an airline to offer daily service. Allegiant Airlines serves 30 cities out of Punta Gorda. Airport officials estimate they'll accommodate 1 million travelers by year-end. Sue:Additional carriers in Southwest Florida gives us more flight options, and I personally love the no-stress travel in and out of Punta Gorda Airport.

Cape Coral Adds Online Option to Disconnect Water Service
 
The City has launched a new online service to provide water and sewer customers the convenience of requesting disconnection of service online. To access the online form, visit the City website at www.capecoral.net and select "I Want to" and then under "Apply" choose "Water and Sewer Service". The city is developing additional online services for the convenience of new water and sewer customers.

Cape Home Price Stats During Current R.E. Cycle
Tom: Although Cape home prices have risen by 120% since the bottom of the market (Dec 2010), prices are still $114,000 lower than the last peak, so we should have much appreciation left in this cycle. If the new peak prices do not exceed the previous peak home prices (Jan, 2006), it will be the first time this has happened since real estate records have been kept.

Cape Coral Single Family Home Permits
 
Tom: Per the U.S. Census Bureau and the projected number of new Snowbirds coming each year, Cape Coral will need 250 - 300 homes built per month to keep pace with demand. Although 131 permits in June is a substantial increase over the past several years, it is still far short of the new homes needed. Thus my expectation that lot prices will continue to increase at double digit appreciation rates.

The Cost of Home Renting vs. Owning in Florida
 
GOBankingRates.com released a guide detailing how monthly rent compares to monthly mortgage payments across the U.S. To see the price breakdown for all U.S. states, visit the GoBankingRates website. The bottom line: It's cheaper to own a home than it is to rent one in 42 states, with renting more affordable in only eight states and the District of Columbia.
 
The study compared median rent prices for single-family homes against the median list price of homes in each state. GOBankingRates assumed a 20% down payment for the median home price and applied a 30-year fixed-rate loan term. It also included the cost of property taxes and insurance. Using the same controls as the survey (a single-family home rented or purchased at median rates), the Cape's rent versus buy difference of $821 a month is more than double the state average.

Cape Coral Ranks in Top 10 in U.S. for.....Pizza
 
It should come as no surprise to fans of Maria's, Papa Joe's, Lelulo's, Dante's, Nice Guys, or any of the dozens of other pizzerias that call Cape Coral home. The city loves pizza — a lot. More so, apparently, than even Chicago and even New York.
 
According to a study released by SmartAsset, Cape Coral is the No. 9 city in the country for pizza lovers. The Cape beat out several major metropolises for the honor, including St. Louis, which took 13th. Neither the Big Apple nor the Windy City cracked the study's top 25. 16.88 percent of the pizza places in Cape Coral are considered great, meaning they have a rating of over 4.4 on Yelp. Tom & Sue: This is delicious news for us, as we love pizza!
