Sea and Air Temperature Info

Decisions, decisions...

When making up your mind to buy your own piece of Paradise, you will consider many factors. For example, people ponder how far south is “south enough” in Florida, as well as which coast is preferable, the Atlantic or Gulf. There is a difference, and while the decision is ultimately up to the buyer, here are a few facts and comparisons to assist with the decision-making process!

The beaches on the Atlantic side are a coarser and darker sand which tends to compact easier. The water is colder on average and the surf tends to be “rougher”, if you will, meaning higher waves which are better for surfing. The Gulf beaches have a powdery, white sand and the water temps are warmer year round. Seas are milder and calmer which is better suited for swimming and water sports such as paddle boarding and jet skiing.

According to tropicalweather.net, the average water temperature for Daytona Beach in the winter months ranges from 59-65º!

Even when buyers decide to settle on the Gulf side of the Sunshine State, they sometimes struggle with how far south they should go to be assured of near-perfect weather nearly all the time!

***It is important to also note that the frost line in Florida runs from Tampa on the west coast to Vero Beach on the east coast. Thus, nearly ALL citrus industry is located south of those two areas! Typically, here in SWFL we are not affected by temperature swings due to the fact we are well below the frost line.

Too Hot...Too Cold...Just Right!!!

Florida is the Sunshine State for good reason. Sunshine is plentiful and warmth is bountiful, both of which draw folks from all over the world. Here in SWFL, retirees, snowbirds, full-time and part-time residents refer to the area as “PARADISE”! Winters are perfect for golfers and beach-goers alike. Summers, with typically more rainfall, are tempered with balmy, gulf breezes and warm, mild evenings. However, some buyers consider the temperature difference between gulf coast cities when determining that Cape Coral and SWFL is their choice to call home. Online bloggers and weather websites have documented as much as a 10 degree variance between Tampa and Cape Coral. Below is an example of documented temps in 2015:
