“Spring has sprung and the grass has riz, I wonder where the flowers is.” – this old poem rings a bell for many of us right? However, in Florida, we are lucky to have flowers and grass (showing) year-round! However, different types of plants and flowers bloom in Florida’s spring and summer season.

We’re in the middle of spring and it’s heating up down here in southwest Florida. Nearly all the snowbirds have headed back up north. The roads are less crowded. You can get into your favorite restaurant easier. And yet, there’s still plenty of things to do in Cape Coral and surrounding cities.  

For this article, we wanted to share with you some great events and happenings that are going on in the city during the month of May. Whether you’re a resident, part-time resident, visitor, guest, or thinking about buying a home and moving to Cape Coral or southwest Florida, this list will give you an idea of the fun things area has to offer! 

Fort Myers Art Walk | May 3, 6 to 10 p.m.
Downtown Fort Myers River District, 1300 Hendry Street, Fort Myers

Hank Williams, Jr. | May 3, 8 p.m.
Hertz Arena 11000 Everblades Parkway, Estero
Hank Williams, Jr. is an American musician whose style is a blend of Southern rock, blues, and traditional country.

24th Annual Taste of the Beach | May 5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  
450 Old San Carlos Blvd. Fort Myers Beach
Restaurants will offer samples of signature dishes and compete for the top Taste of the Beach Award. Categories include: Best Appetizer, Best Beef Entree, Best Seafood Entree, Best Chicken Entree, Best Dessert, Best Decorated Booth, and People’s Choice. Admission is $5 for adults. Children under 12 are free. Food tickets are $1 each, with a $5 average food serving price. Live music will be in the area.

Taste of Collier | May 5, noon to 4 p.m.
Bayfront, 465 Bayfront Place, Naples
Chefs competition, ice-carving contest, live music, sample from 30 local restaurants and more. Admission is $5. Children under 6 are free. Food and beverage tickers are sold in sheets of 10 for $10

Chayanne | May 9, 8 p.m.
Hertz Arena 11000 Everblades Parkway, Estero
Chayanne is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer and actor with 21 solo albums.

Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival | May 10, 5 to 10 p.m.,  May 11, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Tin City, 1200 5th Avenue South, Naples
Free admission.

Shark-A-Thon Tournament | May 20-21
Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village & Tarpon Point Marina, Cape Coral 
The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral puts on Shark-A-Thon, an annual Fishing Tournament the helps “Take a Bite out of Local Hunger” by supporting Feed the Cape (www.FeedTheCape.com). It is a catch and release tournament.
