The National Assoc of Realtors just released the Florida 2014 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers:

Home Buyer Characteristics:

* 24% were first-time buyers in Florida, compared to 33% nationally

* 14% purchased a multi-generational home due to older children moving back, to save money, or take care of aging parents

* The typical buyer was 54-years old; the typical first-time buyer was 33

* 67% of buyers were married

Home Search Process and Characteristics of Homes Purchased

* 91% of Florida buyers used the Internet during the home search process, but only 12% used a mobile device

* 97% view real esate agents as a source of useful information

* The typical home buyer searched for 10 weeks and viewed 10 homes

* 81% of buyers purchased an existing detached single-family home, and new home purchases accounted for only 18% of home sales (down from historical norms)

Home Buying & Real Estate Professionals

* 85% of buyes purchased thier home through a real esate agent or broker

* 35% found their agent through a friend or family member, 10% used the agent previously

* 89% of buyers would use their agent again or recommend them to others

Financing the Home

* 77% of Florida buyers financed thier home purchase - less than the 88% who did so nationally (Tom: cash purchases are mugh higher in SW Florida - close to 50%)

* In Florida, 82% of buyers believe their home is a good financial investment

Home Sellers and the Selling Experience

* The typical seller lived in the home for 11 years

* 87% of sellers were assisted by a real estate agent

* In Florida, sellers typically sold their homes for 97% of the listing price, though 50% reduced their asking price at least once

* 29% of sellers offered incentives to attract buyers - most often assistance with home warranty policies and closing costs
